The Lie Boat was founded with the goal to deliver high impact training from some of the most experienced practitioners and the best instructors in the field, and to present that training in a fun, dynamic and engaging way! Wesley Clark has over 22 years of experience in law enforcement. In 2009 he retired from the Connecticut State Police as a Sergeant, serving the majority of his time within the Major Crime Squad as both a Detective and Sergeant. He is the founder and President of LIES, LLC Linguistic Interrogation Expert Services, a company dedicated to training, research and consultation within the field of investigative interviewing, criminal interrogation, investigative statement analysis, detecting deception and credibility assessment. Mr. Clark has been involved in academic research involving interviewing techniques, statement analysis and detecting deception within the United States and England. He has conducted training throughout the United States as well as internationally and he is frequently consulted by law enforcement agencies as well as the insurance industry to analyze statements and confessions, transcripts, recorded statements and other documents to provide insight and credibility assessment as well as interview & interrogation strategies.

James Kline is a 20-year veteran of the Connecticut State Police where he served as both Detective and Sergeant with the Major Crime Squad. He was also an active member of the multidisciplinary team of experts specializing in the investigation of abuse and neglect of children. He also supervised a special task force initiated by the Governor’s Office to investigate Corruption within the Department of Motor Vehicles. He has been involved with various research and academic studies on interviewing techniques and deception. He continues to serve Connecticut citizens as a police officer for the Town of Orange.

Dr. Kevin Colwell earned his Ph.D. in Forensic Clinical Psychology from Sam Houston State University in 2002. He and his colleague Cheri Anisman, Ph.D. have developed Assessment Criteria Indicative of Deception (ACID) – a system of Investigative Interviewing and Credibility Assessment that uses the psychology of memory and impression management to assist in recall from honest respondents while making deception more difficult and more obvious. Dr. Colwell has published multiple studies on the development and performance of the ACID technique, and also on the benefits of ACID training. This, makes ACID training unique, in that the content of the material, and the manner in which it will be taught, have been carefully studied, and shown to be effective. In addition to publishing, Dr. Colwell has consulted with numerous state and federal agencies, worked in forensic hospitals in Texas and California, psychiatric and general population prisons in Texas (including Death Row), child trauma, and the California Department of Developmental Services.

 Dr. Dorothy McCoy is a psychotherapist, speaker, instructor, writer and consultant. She is a member of the Society for the Scientific Study of Psychopath, ILEETA, and the Society for Police and Criminal Psychology, as well as a former South Carolina State Constable. Dr. McCoy is currently working to train law enforcement and corporate personnel to recognize potentially destructive individuals such as psychopaths, as the dangers and the nature of such people affects many areas of law enforcement and business. Dr. McCoy researched and created the Master Instructor Program and manual for the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, and she is a Master Instructor herself, as well as a highly skilled psychotherapist, speaker and expert on countering manipulative and destructive behaviors. She is a member of the American Counseling Association, the International Consortium for Leadership in Public Safety, Women in Law Enforcement Leadership and a Diplomat with the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. Dr. McCoy a National Certified Counselor and subject matter expert appearing on radio, in newspapers, on the Internet, in books and national magazines.

Michael (Mike) Liwicki is a 27 year veteran of the FBI specializing in the field of espionage and behavioral assessment. He is a former member of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Program (BAP) Team, an elite group of highly trained body language, deception detection and verbal / nonverbal communication professionals with unique and extensive behavioral and counterintelligence experience. Mike has traveled the world investigating, interviewing and utilizing his skills as both an FBI Crisis Negotiator and a Forensic Psychophysiological Detection of Deception (Polygraph) examiner. Mike draws from hundreds of interviews and nearly 30 years of real, in-the-trenches, spy vs spy and behavioral assessment work throughout his career as an FBI Special Agent.


Though the majority of his work has been in the field of National Security, Mike supervised the FBI's Special Operations Group and coordinated the evidence recovery and surveillance needs of the New York City office in the aftermath of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. In Buffalo, he was named as Case Agent to investigate the 1994 bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City and as co- Case Agent to the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center bombing in New York City. 


Mike was born in Brussels, Belgium and is fluent in Russian, Polish and Ukrainian. He has studied German, Czechoslovakian and Latin. In addition to his polygraph business, Mike is a speaker, an adjunct professor of criminal law, and has consulted to law enforcement, government agencies, the insurance, banking and food industry and to the New York State Courts.
