ACID Assessment Criteria Indicative of Deception: This research-based training presents empirical evidence regarding the language of deception identified through extensive research. This system of Investigative Interviewing and Credibility Assessment uses the psychology of memory and impression management to assist in recall from honest respondents while making deception more difficult and more obvious. After going through this training, participants substantially increased their ability to distinguish between deceptive and truthful information reaching between 77% and 90% accuracy.
Deception Detection & Non-Verbal Communication: There are many myths and misinformation about non-verbal behavior, but what is the truth? In this session you will learn the truth about non-verbal communication and learn how to use it effectively and ethically within your interviews and interrogations from one of the world’s leading experts who spent 30 years in the FBI investigating Domestic and International Terrorism and Foreign Counterintelligence as well as working as a Crisis Negotiator and Polygraph Examiner.
Cognitive Interviewing; Training & Workshop: During this training you will learn techniques to enhance the memory of victims and witnesses and extract more reliable information through Cognitive Interviewing and the Modified Cognitive Interview. In addition to enhancing memory, these techniques also help the investigator identify deceptive stories as well! Grounded in research on memory and communication, Cognitive Interviewing is a powerful tool to gather accurate and reliable information from people during investigative interviews. We will then separate the class into groups for an interactive workshop which will let the students apply the techniques they learned through experiential training with feedback from instructors as well.
Understanding Psychopathy and the Psychopathic Mind: Their crimes often make national headlines within the news due to the horrific nature of their acts reminiscent of Hannibal Lecter of movie-fame or the reality of people such as Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy. Or, it may be the cunning behavior of bilking millions of dollars from trusting investors through financial or corporate fraud schemes. Psychopathy is often associated with individuals who habitually manipulate people and violate the rights of others without remorse, regret or empathy, and who may engage in habitual criminal activity, deception and other types of behavior in conflict with societal norms and laws. Delve the fascinating but widely misunderstood mind of the psychopath, which will set the foundation on how to interview such individuals effectively.
Interviewing the Psychopathic Personality: Roughly 2% of the population may be specifically classified as psychopathic, but a significantly greater number of people have psychopathic tendencies without being classified as such. Also, studies show that 17% to 20% of the prison population as well as a significant percentage of CEO’s and corporate executives have psychopathic tendencies as well. This means that whether you are an investigator within law enforcement or the corporate community, you will interview individuals with psychopathic personalities. Often characterized by a lack of empathy and remorse, as well as being pathological liars, getting the truth from a psychopath may be extremely difficult with traditional approaches to investigative interviewing and criminal interrogation. Learn tools and techniques within this training session that will help you identify and interview the psychopath.
